What to Expect:
Beginner Level: This camp level is intended for riders who have no or little previous riding experience. Campers will be assigned a helper and a horse for the week. Campers will ride once a day, learn invaluable knowledge about horses in the form of hands on play, play with our 6' unicorn water sprinkler and campers will participate in crafts and games that are related to horses. Day 5 will be a show and tell of skills and knowledge learned throughout the week.
Ages: 7-10
Novice Level: This camp level is intended for riders who have ridden at camp in previous years, or are in regular lessons and can comfortably walk and trot independently. Canter and small jumps is a bonus but not necessary. Campers will be assigned their "own" horse for the week to learn how to care and ride on. Campers will ride once a day, they will learn important skills around the barn and what goes into their horse to keep him healthy and performing and they will play equine related games and crafts. Day 5 will be a show and tell of skills and knowledge learned throughout the week.
Note, we will be holding an evaluation of skills (date to be announced) prior to camp week to ensure your child is in the correct level of camp.
Ages:7-12
Intermediate/Advanced Level: This camp level is intended for training purposes. This camp is created for riders who are in regular riding programs and can comfortably walk, trot, canter and jump a course independently. Riders will partake in multi-disciplines each day of camp. They will look after their own horse throughout the day and learn the importance of a feed regime that supports equine function, the tack and gear involved with each discipline for horse and rider, the basics for each discipline, etc.
Riders will participate in two rides per day. Their horsemanship skills will be corresponding to the daily theme of the discipline. Day 5 will be in the format of a mini horse show bringing all forms of disciplines practised through the week.
Note, we will hold an evaluation of skills day (date to be announced) prior to the start of camp week to ensure riders meet the criteria of this level of camp.
Ages 10-12
Ages 13-15
Riders also have the opportunity to bring their horse to camp for the week. Horses will be kept in individual paddocks, we offer indoor or outdoor board and will be under a light bio-security plan to ensure equines stay in top health during their stay at Willow Creek for the week. We will also be open to daily ship-ins. We ask that horses be up to date on vaccines and that if they are on grain, that daily rations be brought to camp. We will take horses in on Saturday or Sunday before camp so horses can adjust. Cost of equine care included in camp fees.
